Casserole
- 14 ounces French bread
- ¾ teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 6 large eggs
- 1¾ cup whole milk
- ½ cup light brown sugar
Topping
- ½ cup light brown sugar
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter cold
- powdered sugar (optional)
- maple syrup (optional)
Preheat oven to 225 degrees F.
Cut french bread into one inch cubes
Heat bread on a baking sheet at 225 degrees for 12-15 minutes to dry it out.
While bread is baking, prepare custard by whisking eggs, milk, brown sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon, set aside
Prepare topping by mixing brown sugar, cinnamon and salt together.
Cut the butter into small cubes.
Pull bread from oven and preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Transfer bread from baking sheet into a 9x13 inch cake pan sprayed with non-stick cooking spray.
Pour custard evenly over bread, sprinkle on the topping, then place the cubed butter over the top.
Bake at 375 degrees F for 30 minutes.
To serve sprinkle with powdered sugar and drizzle with maple syrup.
