Tropical Green Smoothie
To start with, this smoothie is loaded with all kinds of fresh ingredients. Spinach, fresh orange juice, banana, pineapple, lime juice, greek yogurt and almond milk. I don’t want you to be scared of the fact that it’s green! Even though this drink is loaded with nutrient rich spinach, it doesn’t taste like your typical leafy green smoothie.
I used my food processor to make this smoothie, because, well…I don’t have a blender. Terrible right? Hopefully something that can be corrected in 2015. Is that weird to have that as a New Years Resolution? To get a blender? Moving on..
This smoothie is extra creamy due to the base of greek yogurt, I used a Vanilla flavored one, I tend to like the flavoring a little more than Plain, and that’s what I had on hand. If you’re a Plain Greek Yogurt type of person though, this can definitely be substituted. Just keep in mind that it won’t be quite as sweet as the recipe below. I also added some almond milk, again, what I had on hand. I of course had Vanilla flavored again, but if you go for the Unsweetened almond milk like my hubs does you can always substitute, he usually has some sweeteners on hand though, and you may find that you need to add a little to the smoothie if you’re making substitutions here.
The addition of banana adds even more creaminess to this smoothie, plus it helps to mask the flavor of all the spinach that we will be adding in a moment.
For a boost of Vitamin C, plus great citrus flavor, we’re adding the juice from one medium sized orange, plus juice from half of a lime. Just squeezing the juice from these fruits will not only make your kitchen smell citrusy and divine, but your smoothie will be bursting with that same fresh, citrus taste. Not to mention supposedly limes are good for your skin! Bonus!
Now to make this smoothie pure Tropical heaven we will add in the pineapple. I used frozen, which I love the frostiness that it brings to the smoothie, but you can always use fresh also if you happen to have some on hand. The pineapple is going to be the main taste that comes through in this smoothie. Which is fine by me. Is there anything more refreshing than the taste of pineapple? Plus this smoothie is going to give you a super boost of Vitamin C for the day.
The spinach is what makes this smoothie green. But again, don’t be scared of it. Just look back at all the other flavorful ingredients that we have added in here. The raw spinach is so nutrient dense, and since we are adding it with citrus it will be easier for the body to absorb all those wonderful nutrients (I read a lot). Plus, bonus, it’s not going to make the smoothie taste like we’re eating a bunch of leaves! Yay!
So go ahead, make a smoothie or two. Enjoy the tropical wonder in a glass, and fill your body with vitamins and nutrients. I am definitely in my happy place when healthy tastes this good.
